Publishing

The difference between domain, hosting, preview and publishing

The domain is the address. Hosting runs the website. A preview is for review; publishing is the final public state.

Domain

The address entered in the browser can remain with a separate registrar.

  • Ownership access
  • DNS records
  • Renewal fee

Managed hosting

The infrastructure running the website is managed within the selected package.

  • Published files
  • SSL connection
  • Technical maintenance

Preview and publish

Preview exists for decision-making; public publishing requires a separate approval.

  • Desktop review
  • Mobile review
  • Public address
